Welcome to PanhandleRTAG.com, a project website for the Panhandle Regional Transportation Advisory Group.
Our hope is that when you visit this site, you will gain a greater understanding of the work being
accomplished everyday with the partnerships formed and reaffirmed through RTAG. We look forward to a day
of productive and cost-effective transportation services that enjoy a significant level of public support.
However, after working diligently for the last year to reach an even greater level of involvement and
coordination between our stakeholders, RTAG is proud of where transportation provision stands today in
the panhandle of Texas! Although we still have a long way to go as an area in providing adequate public
transportation to all in need, we are emboldened by the steps we have taken recently! Instead of speaking
about coordination planning in the future tense, the panhandle region now experiences the fruits of those
labors every day! Many types and degrees of coordination exist from vehicle sharing or the joint
procurement of equipment or services to the performance of centralized administration and other functions
by a single entity acting as a transportation broker. The intended result of coordination is lower costs
for participating organizations through greater efficiency, which means better transportation services for
the region. Of 24 regions undertaking this coordination challenge, the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission
(PRPC), located in Amarillo, TX., is only one. However, as a lead agency, the PRPC and RTAG have created a
coordinated transportation plan for the top 26 counties in the Panhandle. This group is made up of
representatives from health and human service agencies, public and private transportation providers and
several county representatives. RTAG provides oversight to the implementation of the coordinated
transportation plan. However, we are now in the early stages of revisiting the plan and deciding what
updates are necessary. We understand the plan to be a living document used to guide our actions.
However, without necessary updates, the plan is nothing more than ink on paper. RTAG is working hard
to make sure that those words are meaningful and lead to real improvements for real people!
